The AWPU was founded in 2026 to represent female players of Afghan heritage playing in world football. We believe that through the power of collective action, a unified voice and a supportive environment, we can build a future of football that is inclusive of the hopes, dreams and needs of the women on Afghanistan, both in the diaspora and in the country.

In nations where there are football federations, there exists established or emerging vehicles for player representation, which work to ensure that the voices of players are included in decision making processes. In Afghanistan, the systematic destruction of the rights of women and girls in public life has meant that their voices have been lost. In support of our sisters in Afghanistan, we are working to return this voice to sporting discourse from the diaspora, and give a platform to Afghan Women in Football around the globe to represent their interests, from the elite sportswomen of the National Team, to those working towards that goal, whilst ensuring that the voices of women in Afghanistan are never forgotten.
